NEWSLETTER - 14/12/2007

Hey Groove Trainers,

Heaps of things happened last weekend at SGC with the highlights
being Troy Armstrong winning the WOW Regionals and Kevin Luong who
won the Yugioh Pharoahs Tour Qualifier(his THIRD!)

Lots happening this weekend, but as it happens the REAL highlight is
on Monday night where it is the Sydney Games Centre Christmas party
at Wentworth Park Greyhounds! If you're getting this newsletter
you're invited, and feel free to bring a friend. Chris and I will be
delighted to see you there and buy you a drink to help celebrate the
festive season thoroughly. It's a fun night, and all those who come
along have the chance of winning something from Obiwan Foggobis
Lucky Sack of Lerve! That's right, at the start of each race
everyone will get a sweepstake number and if your numbered dog wins
that race, you get get grab something from Foggo's lovesack! How
cool? Lots of fun things to be won, come on out a enjoy the festive
season with us!

MAGIC THE GATHERING TRADEABLE CARD GAME

Last Sunday The MIGHTY Allan Sharpe went 4-0 to win to our type 2
tournament. Riley came in second and Guy third. Great work guys!

This Sunday we're using a new format that Field Commander Foggo made
up one night after trying saki for the first time. Its Chaos sealed!
That means you pick any 5 boosters we have on display to CRACK and
make a 40 card minimum deck with! Details as follows:

CHAOS SEALED TOURNAMENT

When: Sunday 16th December. 11am rego, 11.30am start
Format: Chaos Sealed(you can pick ANY 5 boosters from the shelf and
crack to make your best 40 card minimum deck with)
Entry: $35
Prizes: Heaps of boosters, promos and a poster or 2 thrown in for
good measure, plus a fun day of playing a fun MTG format. Anyone who
gets beat down by Grizzly Bears has my unending sympathy, as you
will enter a very exclusive club(Foggo being the only other member)

The next Sunday, 23rd December, we're having a Sydney 500 warm up!
Details as follows:

SYDNEY 500 WARM UP!

When: Sunday 23rd December. 11am rego, 11.30am start
Format: Type 2
Entry: $10
Prizes: Winner takes home a box of boosters! Merry Christmas!
Boosters to top 12 at least plus a fun day of playing MTG!

And speaking of the Sydney 500, starting at tonight FNM, the winner
of the next 3 FNMs (that's tonight, Dec 21st and Dec 28th) we're
giving the winner a first round bye at The Sydney 500!!! How cool is
that??? Win a fun FNM, get a round 1 bye at the longest running
independent big $$$ event in NSW! Woohooo!

And speaking of which, the main event is December 30th and will be a
blast. Lots of fine players have won this event and its now part of
the Sydney MTG scene folklore. Wanna be apart of it, and play for
$500 CASH? Come along with your best deck December 30th and try your
luck! Details as follows:

Format: Standard type 2
Entry: $20
Prizes: $500 plus trophy and infi bragging rights to the winner!!!
Heaps of boosters plus a fun day of playing MTG at one of the
countries longest running independent big $$$ event.

Don't foget our fine Thursday night drafts from around 6pm each
Thursday for the value price of just $12, our Saturday afternoon 14
and under tournaments, and of course our weekly Friday Night Magic
each Friday night from 6.30pm

MTG is a great game, we have everything you need to build pretty
much any deck you want, from expert to novice. Cruise in and check
out our range, have a friendly game of 3 or just ask for a demo.

YUGIOH TRADEABLE CARD GAME

Last Saturday I'm afraid I can't remember who won the open YGO
tournament(maybe Chester Swords) but Michael Brancalion won the 13
and under tournament. Great work guys! And as mentioned above, Kevin
Luong won his 3rd(of 4)Pharoahs Tour Qualifiers. Because he, Alex
Antonies and Alex Wong had already qualified, the invite seems to
have passed down to the always consistant and innovative Bodan
Temyk. Well done Bodan.

This Saturday its our usual Yugioh Hobby league from 10am-1pm. Entry
is just $5 and everyone wins a prize, and we have opens and 13 and
under events running concurrently.

Then on Sunday 23rd December we're running a win a box of Gladiators
Assault tournament to celebrate YGO and the festive season! Details
as follows:

WIN A BOX OF GLADIATORS ASSAULT TOURNAMENT

When: Sunday 23rd December. 11.30am rego, 12 noon start
Format: Advanced Constructed
Entry: $15
Prizes: Winner takes home a box of Gladiators Assault! Everyone wins
a booster just for playing, and obviously the more duels you win,
the more packs you're up for! Plus it will be FUN!

And looking forward the Pharoahs Mall is on January 13th at
Parramatta RSL, and we have a last chance qualifier on Saturday
afternoon January 5th at 1pm. Entry will be $15 and everyone will
win a pack just for playing, winner will receive a BOX of boosters!

Plus staring Thursday 27th December its our world famous school
holidays tournaments! Every Tuesday and Thursday during the school
holidays we run tournaments from 12.30pm till about 4.30pm for
oodles of prizes! Entry is just $10 with the winner getting HEAPS of
boosters, and everyone will win 1 pack just for playing! Its fun,
UDE sanctioned and everyone wins a prize!

Its an exciting time to be playing YGO at the moment. We have oodles
of boosters, structure decks, tins and singles available, and if
you'd like to try cruise in on a Saturday and we'll make sure
someone shows you how its done!

WORLD OF WARCRAFT TRADEABLE CARD GAME

Louis Armstrong won last Sundays WOW Regionals, going 4-0 to beat
2007 Australian Champion Jimmy Xing in the final. Big Kon and WA
superstar Jon Wan made up the top 4 and now have their ticket at the
2008 WOW Nationals. Great work guys!

To miss a clash or 2 we've moved our WOW sealed tournament from this
Sunday to Saturday 21st December! Details as follows:

WORLD OF WARCRAFT SEALED TOURNAMENT

When; Saturday 22nd December. 1pm rego 1.30pm start
Format: Sealed(you get 5 boosters of March of the Legionnaires to
crack and make your best 30 card minimum deck with)
Entry: $35
Prizes: Winner gets a Feast of Wintervale box set!!! Boosters to all
players plus a fun arvo of playing WOW!

The next WOW TCG regionals is January 26th 2008. Rego is at the
sleep in friendly time of 12 noon for a 12.30pm start, entry is $15,
winner gets a box of Heros and the top 4 players get an invite into
the 2008 Nationals!

And starting January, we're running weekly money WOW tournaments!!!
The format is the funky constructed format, with March of the
Legionnaires, and its Sunday afternoon from 1pm! Details as follows:

When: First one is Sunday 6th January, then the 13th and 20th
January. 12.30pm rego, 1pm start
Format: Constructed
Entry: $10
Prizes: Winner gets $75 store credit!!! Runner up gets $25 store
credit!!! Everyone wins at least 1 booster just for playing

Plus we have WOW booster drafts each Thursday night from around 6pm.
Its just $15 for a set of March boosters, promos and rare picks up
for grabs.

We have a thumping range of WOW singles available for sale for all
those up for tuning their decks, plus all boosters for sale as well,
Hero's of Azeroth(base set)and Dark Portal on special for just $5
each! WoW is a good ccg, especially if you're one of the zillions
who play online. If you'd like a demo cruise in anytime and ask for
a game, we'll show you how its done.

STAR WARS COLLECTABLE MINIATURES GAME

Last Tuesday night we nearly had to call for a drug swab as Daniel
Waller went within a dice roll of winning his first ever Star Wars
minis tournament! He lost in the final narrowly to Jeremy Gordon,
who was playing in his FIRST EVER Star Wars miniatures tournament(I
still have his DCI rego card to prove it!) Great work guys! Everyone
had a blast and did a fair bit of laughing. It was DCI sanctioned
and it was FREE!!!!!

Next Tuesday is our last Star Wars minis tournament for the year, so
we're going to make it special by making it a funky sealed
tournament! Details as follows

STAR WARS MINIATURES CHRISTMAS SEALED TOURNAMENT

When: Tuesday 18th December. 6.30pm rego, 7pm crack-off
Format: Star Wars sealed(you get a Star Wars starter and a booster
to crack and make your best 200 point army with!). Boosters you can
choose from are Rebel Storm and Clone Strike.
Entry: Just $35
Prizes" Everyone gets a Clone Strike or rebel Storm booster just for
playing, winner gets 2!!!

This will be a fun night of playing SW minis for newbies and
veterans alike. So come on in and either start your collection or
fill in the gaps to your set, but whatever happens, HAVE FUN!

And speaking of Star Wars minis, anyone who has a Han in Carbonite
from the new expansion Force Unleashed, I want it, so let me know
and we can talk turkey!

THE SPOILS TRADEABLE CARD GAME

This weekend Good Games have their BIG The Spoils TCG weekend. It
kicks off both days at noon, Saturday sealed win a wii for $40,
Sunday a $500 Constructed tournament. It will be HUGE, and great
fun, cruise in and try your luck!

We'll have a The Spoils draft as usual on Saturday afternoon from
about 2.30pm. Its just $15 for a draft set with promos and rare
picks up as prizes.

Looking forward the next expansion, Children of the Lingamorph, is
coming to Sydney January 12th & 13th. More details as they come to
hand, but the winner of each release tournament will take home a
Nintendo DS!!!

The Spoils is awesome. We play Saturday afternoons both draft and
constructed, and most Tuesday nights there is people hanging around
playing their decks. If you'd like to learn cruise in anytime for a
demo, it is HEAPS of fun(plus we have restocks of the pre-
constructed decks again!)

NARUTO TRADEABLE CARD GAME

Sad face time, the stock for the release STILL hasn't come in, so
we're putting it back until December 23, which is probably better
anyway so we can wish all the Naruto players a Merry Christmas.

If you're up for a game on Saturday don't forget our Saturday
afternoon tournament. Its just $6 to play from around 2pm and
everyone wins a prize.

We also have Naruto singles, starters and boosters available. Chris
and Vickey both love the game, so if you'd like a demo cruise in on
a Saturday afternoon and we'll show you how its done.

POKEMON TRADEABLE CARD GAME

Pokemon is heaps of fun, and the weekly league is as much about
talking Pokemon, drawing Pokemon and colouring in Pokemon as it is
actually PLAYING Pokemon, and everyone likes it that way! Its on
again this Sunday from noon till 3.30pm. Entry is just $6 and
everyone has a fun day and wins a prize.

The next competitive Pokemon tournament is round 2 of our Elite
Beats series. Its on Saturday 29th December, 12 noon registration,
12.30pm start, entry is $12 and heaps of prizes are up for grabs, as
well as the precious Elite Beats series points. Last months winner
was Gordon Ranger, who will win this months event???

And then on January 6th it's the Pokemon City Championships!!! This
will be a fantastic event with prizes in 3 different age categories,
details as follows:

THE POKEMON CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS!

When: Sunday 6th January. Noon rego, 12.30pm start
Format: Modified Constructed
Entry: $10
Prizes: SOOOOO many boosters its not funny, plus medals to the
winners of each age category. This will be FUN, come in and play
Pokemon!!

MECHWARRIOR COLLECTABLE MINIATURES GAME

Mech is on from around 2.30pm again this Sunday. We usually get
around 4-6 players, but last Sunday we had 9!!!. It costs just $5 to
play for the afternoon with LE's and cracked boosters up as prizes

STAR TREK 2ND EDITION TRADEABLE CARD GAME

The next Sunday Trek event is our Christmas party tournament, our
way of bringing the Sydney Trek community together and saying thanks
to the players who made this year the best Trek year ever, with 16
players participating in the NSW Territorials and 30 players playing
over 2 days to play the Nationals. Awesome. The tournament will be
one of the funkiest events we've run for any ccg, its our Quantum
Crack tournament!

TREK QUANTUM CRACK TOURNAMENT

When: Sunday 23rd December. 12.30pm registration, 1pm start
Format: Sealed-players get 1 Premier Edition starter/booster combo
box to crack and make a 35 card minimum draw deck and 20 card
minimum dilemma pile with(that's right, you crack the BOX!)
Entry: Just $50
Prizes: Winner gets a t-shirt and boosters from the new set.
Everyone wins boosters, and everyone gets to live the dream and
crack a whole box of cards to crack and play. I can't wait, this
will be awesome! This event will be great for veteran players or
newbies alike, and I'd be happy to show anyone who wants to play in
this event how its done and help them build their first deck.

And don't forget our weekly gathering of Trek players Tuesday nights
from around 6pm onwards where you can just cruise in, have a game or
2, talk Trek tech, trade and generally chill out with the knowledge
you play one of the best TCG's ever made.

Trek is flat out a great game. I love it, and had the time of my
life going to Indianapolis in August to play the world
championships. If you'd like a game cruise in pretty much anytime
and Foggo the Ferengi or Kieren the Klingon will show you how its
done.

VS (MARVEL & DC)TRADEABLE CARD GAME

OK Goobers, to reward the faithful, plus have a little fun just
before Christmas time, we're having a Galactus Crack tournament,
which will be HUGE! Details for this mega Christmas event as follows

When: Sunday 23rd December. Noon rego, 12.30pm start
Format: Marvel Team Up box sealed!(you get 1 whole box, that's
right, 24 boosters to CRACK, and make your best 30 card deck with)
Entry: Just $25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prizes: Winner takes home the sexy looking Coming of Galactus box
set!!! Boosters for all, plus a FUN afternoon of playing a top game,

We have around 6 players from Canberra and 2 from the Central Coast
coming along for this, so it should be a great turn out! If you're
there at the end we may even be able to provide a cool refreshment
or 2 for you!

HEROCLIX COLLECTABLE MINIATURES GAME

This Sunday we're reaching into the realms of funkiness again with
another mixed constructed/sealed event! You bring 200 points of
army, then crack either a Justice League, Avengers or Monsters and
Mutants booster to add another 200 points to it! Details as follows

When: Sunday 16th December. 1.30pm rego, 2pm start
Format: Funky(as above)
Entry: $20
Prizes: Cracked boosters and LE's up as prizes, plus a very funny
arvo of playing Clix!
