NEWSLETTER - 08/09/06 Hey Groovers,The wonderful and most gorgeous Bron from Cardheaven in Melbourne has recently bagged me for not mentioning her name enough in our weekly newsletters. I can assure everyone that Bron is in fact a very good sort who is one of my favourite people and Cardheaven is THE best looking games stores(i have seen stores in Oz, the US and Canada!) You can check them out at Card Heaven Online Lots and lots happened last week and oodles happening this week- lucky Field Commander Foggo keeps himself in tip top physical condition! Here's the rap. MAGIC THE GATHERING: Dominic Lo don't have to worry about playing the first 3 rounds of GP Sydney-he's through already! Dom smashed face last Sunday in our first GP Sydney trial at SGC, making the top 8 in the Ravnica sealed portion of the event then sweeping 3-0 in the Coldsnap draft top 8 final. Dom is one of Sydney's best MTG players, and one of the nicest, most unassuming guys who play as well, and has been for a long time. An innovative, insightful player from the Mighty Allan Sharpe mold, Dom is nearly a given to make day 2 at Sydney GP, and thats a good thing coz he is a top guy. For those wanting to bludge through the first 3 rounds of GP Sydney whilst others sweat their way through, this Sunday is our second GP trial and another chance to get 3 byes and have a fun Sunday playing Rav Block Sealed. Details as follows: Grand Prix Sydney Trial Number 2 When: Sunday 10th September. 10am rego, 10.30am start What: Ravnica Block Sealed: You get 1 tournament pack of Ravnica, 1 booster Guildpact and 1 booster Dissension to make a 40 card minimum deck with.) Entry: $35 Prizes: Winner gets 3 byes in Grand Prix Sydney. Heaps of boosters are also up as prizes! The week after we're getting back to our roots (so to speak) and running the funkiest format we can think of-LEGACY! Details as follows: Legacy Tournament When: Sunday 17th September. 11am rego 11.30am start Format: LEGACY Entry: $10 Prizes: Winner gets a FREE entry into our Sneek Peek on September 30th or October 1st(your choice!)Heaps of boosters for top 8 at least, plus a fun arvo of playing LEGACY! Then the last PRE RELEASE of the year, and probably the one that will be the BIGGEST, is the much anticipated TIMESPIRAL expansion pre-release! Details as follows: TIME SPIRAL PRE-RELEASE NUMBER ONE When: Saturday 23 September 9am and 3 pm registrations Where: Bowler’s Club of NSW 95 York St, Sydney City Format: Sealed. You get 1 Time Spiral tournamet pack and two boosters to build a deck with. Entry: $35 per event. Prizes: Heaps of boosters from the new set! You’ll also get promo cards,and the chance to get random t shirts and random posters! There will also be a 16 and under event at 9am Saturday. Entry is $30 and EVERYONE wins 3 boosters! TIME SPIRAL PRE-RELEASE NUMBER TWO When: Sunday 24 September. 9am and 3pm registrations Where: Dooley’s Lidcombe Community Club 24 John St, Lidcombe Format: Sealed. You get 1 Time Spiral tournament pack and two boosters to build a deck with. Entry: $35 per event. Prizes: Heaps of boosters from the new set! You’ll also get promo cards, and the chance to win random t shirts and posters! The Sydney Games Centre Time Spiral Sneak Peeks are on the weekend after (September 30th & October 1st)at 10.30am both days. This will be a great chance to practice Time Spiral sealed before the Sydney Grand Prix the weekend after! And hold the front page-Field Commander Foggo has just over informed me that he won a draft at SGC last night! Foggo managed a draw with Hughie Shonkopolis(imagine that)and won on resistance! Great work Obiwan. We draft every Thursday night from around 4pm till late, do a $5 pizza run and generally have a fun time. Draft sets are $15 or you can BYO packs. And we also play constructed type 2 every Friday night. Its FNM, has 6pm rego for a 6.30pm start, entry is just $6 with boosters, FNM foils(2 are given randomly)and a fun night of playing MTG up as prizes. FNM is a great chance for new players to put their toes in the water tournament play wise in a fun environment or more experienced players to test out new deck tech before a bigger event. And the fight against anorexia continues-we do a $5 pizza run Friday nights around 7pm as well :) This is a hot time to play MAGIC. With Time Spiral just about to release, and a HEAP of top fun Time Spiral sealed tournaments coming up, its a GREAT time to try MTG. If you'd like a demo, cruise into SGC anytime, we'd be happy to help teach you how to play. Also, we have $5 and $10 home made pre constructed decks that are perfect as a base for your first deck. YUGIOH: We had an astonishing 50 players last Saturday to our YGO Hobby League, and it was a blast! We had 2 events running at the same time-Opens and 14 and under. In the open event Egon Cardenas and Reza Azimzadeh both went 4-0 to win, whilst in the 14 and under event Temujin Tera went 4-0 to take out the juniors. A host of players, led by Kyle Toff and Daniel Brancalion, all went 3-1 to make up the top 8. Great work guys! Hobby League is on again this Saturday morning from 9.30am-1pm. Entry is just $5 with heaps of boosters, a t-shirt, and promo cards up as prizes, plus a fun morning of playign YGO. Plus, with SOOOO many players the trading is brilliant and the differnet types of decks being played make the event HEAPS of fun-and it happens each Saturday!!! The next Winter Regionals is on September 24th, details as follows: When: Sunday September 24th. 10am rego 10.30am start Format: Advanced Constructed Entry: $15 Prizes: Winner receives a box of boosters and an invite to 2007 Nats! Heaps of boosters up as prizes, plus a fun day of dueling YUGIOH! STAR TREK 2ND EDITION CCG: Great work from Mitchell Trent who went 3- 0 in the To Boldly Go release tournament last Sunday. Mitchell played a combo of Romulans and the new Enterprise team to absolutely shred evenyone else. Australian Champion Clayton Walton finished second, going with the Feds,and Denis Lee, playing the very angry Dominion, finished 3rd. We're playing Trek every Sunday, due to popular demand by the funky group of players who play. Details as follows: When: Sundays at 1.30pm Format: Constructed(unless otherwise stated) Entry: $5 Prizes: Boosters and promos up as prizes, plus a HEAPS fun arvo of playing Trek! And speaking of Trek, Clayton has a tournament(which I'll be attending!) Saturday September 16th! It is SOOO much fun, and with To Boldly Go released it gives fans of the series Enterprise a chance to use their favourite affiliation! Starters are just $10 and most boosters just $4(Reflections 2.0 & TBG $6) WWE RAW DEAL CCG: OK Trunkwearers, the time for talking is over, the time for doing the double suplex off the top rope is here! The NSW State Champs qualifier is on here at SGC September 9th and we're not mucking around anymore. Details as follows: When: Saturday September 9th. 11am rego 11.30am start Format: Standard Constructed Entry: $30 Prizes: Everyone wins 5 promo foils at least, plus HEAPS of boosters and the winner gets into a World Championship feeder event! WWE is a fun game. Boosters are just $5 and wrestler designated starters are just $16. Its fun, cheap and has fine organised play support. VS(Marvel & DC)Heaps happening with VS as Heralds of Galactus, Marvels new expansion, went onsale this week. The set is VERY good with heaps and heaps of top strategies for both draft and constructed. For those looking to draft HoG we do Hobby League drafts each Tuesday night at 6.30pm. Its $18 and we give out Hobby League EA's as prizes. On Thursday nights we draft from 6.30pm. Entry is $18 and the winner gets 2 boosters, runner up gets 1 booster. And on Friday nights we play Constructed hobby league. Its Silver Age, entry is $6 and EA's plus boosters are up as prizes. And then Silver Age Saturdays is on each Saturday from 1.30pm. Entry is $6 with boosters, bragging rights and a fun arvo of playing VS up as prizes. All these weekly events are sanctioned so you can work on your VS rankings! And then Sunday 17th September we're running a round of our PLAYER OF THE YEAR championship! Details as follows: When: Sunday 17th September. Noon rego, 12.30pm start Format: Silver Age Entry: $10 Prizes: HEAPS of HOG boosters up as prizes, plus a t-shirt and an EA card. Player of the year points to top 8. Player of the year table can be seen at SGC or at Vs Paradise Forums VS is a fine game. We have a 10K event December 2 and 3 plus $500US Pro Circuit Qulaifiers in November. We have HEAPS of singles and now have premade $5 decks that are ideal for new players to pick up and go with. If you'd like a demo of VS cruise in anytime for a game, it is fun. DREAMBLADE CMG: WOTC have released a fine new minis game Dreamblade. Dale popped out last week to teach us how to play and it is very, very cool. The figures are excellent, the gameplay is really good and the organised play division of Wizards are looking to run around a dozen 1K events in Australia before Christmas! We're running Egde tournaments(like FNM)each thursday night at 6.30pm. Entry will be $5 with alternate paint job figures and cracked boosters up as prizes, plus its DCI sanctioned so you can work on your Dreamblade ranking! Monthly weekend dreamblade events will also be held here, more details will be posted as they come to hand. Last night was our first ever Dreamblade EDGE event and Lindsay Heming went 3-0 to win! Tina Voss finished second with Valentine Schwartz finishing third. It was a fun night, the game IS good, this will be the first of many, plus the players started building up EDGE points they can use to get into 1K tournaments!!! This game is good and looks to have a VERY bright future. We like it, cruise in and see if you like it too! POKEMON TCG: Thanks to Vickey the Mistress of Lerve our POKEMON league is going NUTS!!! We had 13 players last Sunday playing the league and absolutely having a blast! Everyone picked up pins, stickers and the chance to win boosters. We're in the Battlepike season with players taking on Lucy! We're just in week 2 of 4 so its not too late to teach that naughty Lucy a lesson. Croftminster are running a shopping mall tournament for POKEMON October 1 and it will be AWESOME!!! Pokemon league is each Sunday from Noon. Its $5 and everyone wins something, and if you're new to the game come in a little earlier and see Vickey, she'd be happy to give you a demo of the game, and she makes the day heaps of fun for everyone! ONE PIECE TCG: Last Saturday the very adaptable Kyle Toff went 5-1 to win our One Piece tournament, narrowly beating Temujin on treasure box tie breakers! Well done Kyle, you got him back for YGO! One Piece is on again this weekend and its gonna be HEAPS of fun, mainly coz Chris will be playing and everyone always beats him Details as follows: When: Saturday arvo. 1pm rego 1,30pm start Format: Constructed Entry: $6 Prizes: Heaps of boosters plus foils up as prizes, plus a fun arvo of playing One Piece! Our One Piece tournaments are sanctioned so you can check on your rankings each week, plus the prize support we get from Croftminster is FANTASTIC! In a blast of good news we are hosting the One Piece National Titles here, in Sydney, in October! It'll be on October 21 & 22 at SGC, more details as they come to hand! WORLD OF WARCRAFT TCG: For those cyber junkies who cannot get enough of 32nd level elves UDE, the makers of the best selling TCG’s Yugioh and VS are releasing the much anticipated WOW TCG! It goes onsale at Supanova October 27-29th but we're running demos of this exciting new game at SGC each Thursday night to all those who are interested. The cards look great, and the game mechanics are very easy for ccg players to pick up. It will be an enormous game globally with the release at Gencon Indy breaking all expectations and records. If you’d like to see this game in action, Thursday nights is the time to get a sneak preview of it! HORRORCLIX: Wizkids top new CMG is here and it is SOOOO good its not funny! The figures look awesome and the game plays very similarly to the excellent HEROCLIX game, which is a VERY good thing. Last night we ran a sealed "win the Cthulu"tournament and release tournament specialist Dion James scared everyone to win! Great work Dion! We're gonna play Horroclix each FRIDAY NIGHT! Details as follows: When: Friday 15th Septmember. 6.30pm rego, 7pm start Format: 400 point constructed Entry: $5 Prizes: LE's plus cracked boosters and a FUN night of scaring each other up as prizes! WARHAMMER FANTASY: TOP NEWS!!! The new revision of Warhammer Fantasy is on sale tomorrow Saturday 9th September!!! It looks VERY sexy and the best news is that GW have re-jigged the price structure so that the entry set, "Battle of Skull Pass" which feature a dwarf army and a goblin army(including the very cool spider riders!)and a copy of the updated rules for just $85!!! Check this out this weekend, it looks fantastic and makes me want to play 40K! MECHWARRIOR: Regular play each Friday night from around 6.30pm. We also have the Call to Arms release kit for Vanguard, so as soon as we speak to Heath we'll let you know! We had 7 players last Friday all chilling out and having fun playing Mech, if you come along you'll have a good time, its free and don't forget to bring your trades! STAR WARS MINIS: Last Tuesday night we had a new winner! Unlimited Hobbies Blacktown regular Grame Creed went 3 blot to claim leadership over a galaxy far far away on Tuesday night, beating the very delicious and very sultry Eliza Michael in the final. Great work guys! Star Wars minis is on again this Tuesday night from 6.30pm. Entry is FREE, its DCI sanctioned and HEAPS of fun. A great crowd of people play SW minis so if you're interested in trying it out cruise in Tuesday for a game. Thats about it for this week.
